If you have employees to whom you give keys to your store, you will want to make sure that you make the best security decisions possible regarding those keys. Any employee could take those keys to a lock smith and have them duplicated. She could then keep a set to use after hours or after she no longer works for you, or she could end up giving a set to her friend. This makes your store very vulnerable. There is not much you can do to prevent duplications being made, but you can make every effort possible to reduce the chances that this will happen. One idea is to have the keys permanently engraved with the warning, “Do Not Duplicate.” When an honest lock smith sees this, he will refuse to duplicate the keys. Otherwise, you will need to either transition to a biometric system for access control or simply rekey all the locks in your store when an employee quits.
